Menomonee Falls man out $1,300 after falling victim to We Energies scam

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 53-year-old Menomonee Falls man has fallen victim to a We Energies scam.

The man called police around 3:35 p.m. Saturday to report that a man had called him, claiming to be from We Energies and demanding $1,300 for a previous unpaid balance or they would shut off his power.

The man told police that he sent the money in the form of prepaid cards. The man was then told that the cards were rejected and an additional $2,000 was demanded.

The man refused to pay the additional money and spoke with an actual representative from We Energies who confirmed that it was a scam.

A report was filled and the investigation remains ongoing.
