Milwaukee Common Council members discuss ordinance to increase trampoline safety
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Members of the Milwaukee Common Council didn't jump to any decisions about an ordinance aiming to ramp up trampoline safety.
Alderman Peter Burgelis drafted an ordinance earlier this month that would require residents to place trampolines without netting 15 feet away from a building or structure.
The alderman said a constituent sent him a photo of a trampoline out in a yard that sparked questions about safety.
Burgelis made some changes to the ordinance with the vote Tuesday, including adding a minimum penalty of fines up to $300 for violating.
However, members of the Common Council still debated the punishments associated with the ordinance.
"It's kind of high for me," said Alderman Russell Stamper, II. "It sounds kind of high for a trampoline."
"There were a number of discussions we had since the committee," Ald. Burgelis said. "We tried to make a few of those changes right before the vote. We need a little bit more time to get that right."
The ordinance is now heading back to the Public Safety and Health Committee.
