Milwaukee Common Council passes paid family leave bill

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you're a new parent and work for the city of Milwaukee, you could soon get six weeks of paid leave.

The proposal, which passed the Common Council Tuesday, guarantees six weeks of paid leave to new parents, regardless of gender.

It only applies to city of Milwaukee employees.

Research has shown paid parental leave helps families and the development of children.

It's unclear if Acting Mayor Cavalier Johnson will sign the bill.
