MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee leaders are celebrating a new milestone for the "MilES," which stands for Milwaukee Enrollment Services.
The new walk-in facility is open on 64th and Florist on the city's north side.
Officials say Milwaukee County residents can get help with BadgerCare, FoodShare and Wisconsin Share benefits.
MilES and the state Department of Health Services say they have a "no wrong door" policy, meaning you can call or walk into any of their locations to get help.
"When you activate a building like this, in a neighborhood that is burdened with poverty, with suffering, sometimes domestic violence and just general violence and trauma, you've made the choice to strategically place your building where the burdens are high and the resources are scarce for many," said Stephanie Harling, executive director of Havenwoods Neighborhood Partnership.
MilES officials previously worked at the Coggs Center in downtown Milwaukee.
Hunger Task Force argues that this move means access to social services like FoodShare and Medicaid are now farther away from people.
The nonprofit organization has filed a civil rights lawsuit complaint.
