Milwaukee family looking for answers after they say beloved dog was hit by car
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee family is looking for answers, after they say their dog was hit by a car and the driver drove off.
"He’s like my son," said Yoelyany Garcia, who lives in Milwaukee.
For Garcia's family, their puppy Hulk is more than just a dog, he's family, especially for her 6-year-old son.
"Brothers, they are brothers," said Garcia.
So, on Saturday night when Garcia and her son went to take the husky outside for a walk, they were devastated at what they watched unfold.
Garcia says Hulk pulled on the leash and got loose and just as the pup started running back towards them, he was hit by a car on National Avenue and S.1st Street.
"I don’t know why he couldn’t stop, you know cause it’s the street that you can stop if you see something in the street."
Garcia says the driver never stopped to check on the dog, leaving the husky with a fractured shoulder, broken bones and damaged lung.
"My son saw everything, he was crying all night, I couldn’t sleep," said Garcia. "I wasn’t eating good cause as he’s part of the family."
Now, she says she's dealing with nearly $10,000 worth of hospital bills for her dog, with more treatments to come.
"So, I was crying because like I said he's my baby," said Garcia. "I was crying that I wasn’t going to see him again."
She says she called police right after the incident and wants to see the driver held accountable.
CBS 58 reached out to the Milwaukee Police Department for more information regarding the incident, we haven't heard back yet.
Theres a GoFundMe to help the family with medical costs here.
