Milwaukee Fire Department continues push for sprinkler requirements
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Milwaukee Fire Department held a demonstration to show the impact of sprinklers on a fire.
The National Fire Sprinkler Association was in town to help the department set up two different fires, one in a room with sprinklers and one without.
Firefighters showed how quickly a fire can spread without sprinklers and how sprinklers can help not only save items, but also human lives.
Jeff Jordan was at the demonstration. When he was a baby, in 1992, he survived a mobile home fire with no sprinklers.
“I ended up sustaining third and fourth degree burns to half my body, as well as needing 90 reconstructive surgeries over the last 34 years,” Jordan said.
Jordan shared his story on Tuesday, calling for sprinkler requirements alongside Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski.
“You don’t want anybody to go through these fire injuries, to have the same kind of life and journey as I do, and you don't want anybody to lose their life in a fire because you can’t get those people back. And that’s the most important thing,” Jordan said.
The demonstration showed that sprinklers benefit residents and fire crews when an emergency hits.
“These fire sprinklers allow time for the fire to be put out, for firefighters to rescue people, for people to get out of dangerous situations,” Jordan said.
