MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In 1875, the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) was founded with the mission to protect and serve the people.
MFD announced there will be a 150th birthday celebration on Sept. 13 at Henry Maier Festival Park.
The event will be free to the public and highlight the rich history of the fire department and honor former and current firefighters.
MFD Chief Aaron Lipski and others expressed excitement for the party that's 150 years in the making.
"The event is going to be an all-call party for all of Milwaukee," Chief Lipski said. "We care deeply about the community we serve, and we are proud of all the different communities that we serve, and we have had outreach in all these different areas which we are proud of, but now it is time to have a good big party."
The party will feature fire safety education, recruitment opportunities and even live music from the group Chasin' Mason.
