WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – Boxes of food are being distributed in West Allis on Friday, May 28 for those in need.
The Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative (MHVI) received more than 1,100 boxes through the Farmers to Families Food Box program. It was created to offer emergency relief during the pandemic.

“It’s very important for us to meet the needs. We don’t want anybody to go hungry,” MHVI Executive Director Debbie Buchanan said. “We’ve had an extreme increase in families, not just the single veterans, but the entire military family that’s needed more food.”
The distribution is being held until 3:30 p.m., but Buchanan wants to remind people there is always a need.
“This food will go today, but we will continue to have a need come Monday,” she said. “People will still be hungry.”
Buchanan says people can get involved by volunteering or donating food items.
