Milwaukee legislators host Girls' Day at the Capitol in celebration of Women's History Month

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Girls' Day at the Capitol aims to inspire and empower the next generation of female leaders by introducing them to the inner workings of the state government.

Senator Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee), Representative LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee) and Nicole Goins, founder of Pretty Girls Are Educated, Inc., are hosting the event at the Capitol in Madison on Friday, March 31.

The event welcomes a group of students from the metro-Milwaukee area to spend the day learning about the function of state government and touring the Capitol.

The day-long event, taking place from 9:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., aims to provide participating students with an opportunity to meet with various legislators, staff, departmental liaisons and the Capitol Police. The purpose of those encounters is to help the students gain a deeper understanding of the critical roles each of these individuals play in the state legislature.

Women's History Month, celebrated every March, is an annual commemoration of the vital role women have played in American history.
