Milwaukee man charged with murder, accused of shooting victim during armed robbery
MCSO MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Criminal charges are now filed against a Milwaukee man accused in the homicide of 34-year-old Alonzo Treadwell.
Eighteen-year-old Levell Freeman is charged with felony murder -- armed robbery (as a party to a crime) and bail jumping.
Officers responded to the area near Sherman and Burleigh around 3:20 a.m. Sept. 27, according to the criminal complaint, after their ShotSpotter system recorded potential gunfire.
Prosecutors say a responding officer located the victim, identified as Treadwell, on the ground in an alley with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The complaint says officers recovered nine fired cartridge casings that detectives determined came from four different guns.
Security videos from the area collectively show three people on bicycles arriving at the alley just after 3 a.m., according to prosecutors, and a pole camera is said to show the three running from the area immediately after the ShotSpotter recorded gunfire.
Detectives interviewed one of the suspects, who allegedly admitted to hanging out in the area with Freeman and another person while attempting to break into cars. He told officers they didn't know the victim, per the complaint, but were talking to him about a loan of money on an app. The complaint says the suspect told detectives that during the interaction, two of the other suspects pointed their guns at the victim's ribcage, and Freeman grabbed the victim's gun, at which point shots were fired.
Court records show Freeman's bond was set at $100,000.
A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 10.
