MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Mitchell Airport has updated the public, noting that they are seeing a return to normal service, though some lingering delays remain.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An official at Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport held a press conference to address a significant flight outage affecting travelers early Friday, July 19.

Harold Mester, Director of Public Affairs said that airport systems remain operational. However, one baggage screening system was in use, necessitating alternative screening methods to process luggage.

He also mentioned that the ticketing area is busy, and passengers have been advised to stay in contact with their airlines and download the respective apps for updates. Despite the outage, he does believe Southwest flights have been departing. Delta’s system had been updating, as of the time of his update.

Preparations for the Republican National Convention traffic have been underway for over a year, according to Mester, with ample staff available and extra ambassadors available, as some passengers are managing to fly out. Volunteers have extended shifts to aid the process, despite delays.

Stay with CBS 58 for continued updates, and those planning to fly out of MKE should stay in touch with their respective airlines for more details.
