Milwaukee musician searching for rare instrument misplaced after show
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Jon Mroz is a string bass player and part of several bands that play in the Milwaukee area.
Mroz was at Maxie's on 68th St. Monday night, playing the bass for the dinnertime crowd. He made the trip over from Whitefish Bay, packing his trailer full of instruments. But this time, one is missing.
“It’s part of what I do, it’s part of the way I participate in the community,” Mroz said.
Last Sunday, Mroz was getting home from a show when he left his 1940 Epiphone string bass out before leaving for a family trip.
Mroz says he left it somewhere in the alley behind his house. When he got home, the bass was gone.
"Probably laid it here, leaned it up against here, something like that," he said.
“Immediately my brain went to -- gotta hit the road, hope the traffic is not too bad. The same way I’ve done with a pair of sunglasses once. Put 'em down, and better not leave those there,” Mroz said.
As of Monday night, the hard-to-miss bass is still missing.
“I take the blame, and at the end of the day, I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me, it's my responsibility,” Mroz said. “A lot of musicians do get a little emotionally attached to their instruments and that’s definitely the case.”
Word is continuing to spread throughout the music and bass community.
“With such a great community, I continue to get positive messages from people, saying, I just have a great feeling that this is going to show up,” Mroz said.
