Milwaukee Police respond to 60 shots fired calls around midnight

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police responded to 60 shots fired calls and 6 ShotSpotter calls around midnight.

The shots fired calls started coming in ten minutes before midnight and continued several minutes into the new year, police confirm.

Milwaukee Police responded to areas including 61st and Fairmount, 17th and Congress, and 32nd and National.

Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt had previously warned residents not to do this.

"If someone actually does get injured, there's a way to find out where that bullet came from. If we have the gun, you have the projectile, you match 'em up and the ballistics will actually give us a perfect match. You will get convicted, you will go to prison," said Sheriff Richard Schmidt.

There were also two separate fatal shootings that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
