MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's newly relocated LGBT Center is now open. They held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, May 12, in Walker's Point.
It's a hub for services for the LGBTQ+ community, located near 1st and Pittsburgh. A financial setback led to the center's relocation from Court Street to Walker's Point.
The LGBT Center was founded almost three decades ago to address health, housing, food access and economic disparities. With Tuesday's grand opening, a sense of optimism filled the air.
"This grand opening is more than just a ribbon cutting," said Dan Terrio, director of diversity, equity and inclusion, Milwaukee County. "It is the beginning of our next chapter. One where we honor the past, invest in the present and build a future where every LGBTQ+ person in Milwaukee can thrive."
Tuesday's grand opening offered guided tours of the new LGBT Community Center.
