Mitchell Park Domes home to new exhibit featuring model steam trains
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Victorian era is making a comeback at the Mitchell Park Domes.
Saturday, Jan. 18 was the first day of their new exhibit called Golden Age of Steam.
The display has trains running on four separate tracks, all snaking through the Show Floral Dome. The exhibit features steam trains every Friday, with other new trains rotating in and out over the course of the show.
Park staff say it makes for some perfect family fun.
"You know, if you're looking for something to do with the family, this is the best place to come in the winter. I mean, things are at their height, you know... You can't beat it," said Paula Zamiatowski, Milwaukee County Park naturalist.
The train show runs from now until April 6th. There will be a show with trains of all scales at The Domes the first weekend of February.
This overall train show is one of the most popular traditions of the entire year at The Domes. Another special event in February, by the way, is something called "A Night in Bloom." Proceeds benefit cultural enrichment and educational programs. You can expect fine cuisine, live entertainment, auctions, raffles, and more. Go here if you're interested in attending. The actual event is on February 22nd and runs from 5:30-10:30 p.m.
