MLB: 31 players, 7 staff members test positive for coronavirus

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association announced the first set of COVID-19 test results on Friday, July 1.

The total number of positive tests is 38, according to a press release, which is 1.2% of the 3,185 samples collected and tested.

They say 31 of these positives are players and seven are staff members.

Nineteen different clubs have had one or more individuals test positive during intake testing.

The tests were conducted as part of a mandatory intake screening process under MLB's Health Monitoring & Testing Plan, prior to the workouts that are beginning Friday.
