MPS board announces decision to re-open application window for superintendent

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Board of School Directors on Wednesday announced its decision to re-open the application window for Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent.

The decision was made during a special board meeting held Tuesday evening.

“Our goal is to secure the most highly qualified individual to lead our district in its mission to welcome all students and prepare them for success in higher education, post-educational opportunities, work, and citizenship,” said Marva Herndon, President of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors. “By re-opening the window, and gathering additional applications, we aim to develop a deeper slate of candidates and ensure we are considering a diverse and robust pool of talented leaders.

While re-opening the window will extend the timeline, the board says they still hope to conclude the search by early spring.

A revised timeline for the application process will be announced in the coming weeks.
