MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public Schools students presented poetry to the public Wednesday, to celebrate Public Schools Week.
During the poetry showcase, they presented original poems, short stories and spoke word.
Local music artist and poet Jonah Denae was invited by MPS to recite a spoken word piece to the students.
"This is a next generation that I'm inspiring, so it was just amazing to hear their poems and their power, their stories, where they come from. It was amazing."
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson also made an appearance to present a proclamation and declare Feb. 26 through March 1 of 2024 Public Schools Week throughout the city.
