Shoppers hit the stores for last-minute Christmas Eve gifts
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- What a day it was for kids at Milwaukee's Martin Luther King Community Center. It's not every day you get basketball coaching from the reigning Big East Conference champs.
But there they were, head coach Shaka Smart and his Marquette Golden Eagles, putting the kids through their paces.
Ten-year-old Jordan Turner was just one of dozens of kids who participated in what was called a mini-clinic led by the coach and his players.
The King Center is a place where city kids gather to play and learn. There were lots of smiles on their faces Monday, but maybe the biggest smile was worn by King Center Director Dee McCollum.
"I challenged Coach Shaka a couple months ago, when they won the division, to come and do something at my center with some children that wouldn't normally be able to participate in a real expensive basketball camp," said McCollum. "I know the Bucks do one, there are other camps around here, but a lot of children can't afford it. He took me up on my challenge and Marquette basketball team is here today."
According to McCollum, Coach Smart plans to bring his team back to the center for other activities and the kids will get to go see a Marquette game in the future.
