Multiple repeat drunk drivers arrested over the weekend in Dane County

Sun Prairie, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Michael J. Vernig, age 52 of Sun Prairie, was arrested for his tenth OWI violation in the town of Sun Prairie last weekend.

A citizen called the Dane County Police Department Saturday night, stating they were following a vehicle that was driving “erratically.” Deputies responded to the call and found Vernig in the ditch on the side of the road. After conducting standard sobriety tests deputies arrested Vernig for Operating a Motor Vehicle While under the Influence of an Intoxicant.

Vernig is currently being held in the Dane County Jail on this charge, which is a Class E Felony and carries a mandatory prison sentence of between 4 and 10 years.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 5 people for OWI’s. Those arrested included 2 second time offenders, 1 third offense, 1 sixth offense, and Mr. Vernig for his tenth offense.
