MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee will soon have a new museum open to the public as an organization has found a special new home.

"For the last 23 years, we've been working to get this," said Thomas Volke, president of the Museum of Beer & Brewing.

The Museum of Beer & Brewing joined the Wisconsin Historical Society in 2001.

Since then, they've done pop-up events and partnered with Old World Wisconsin, they've never had a permanent home.

"It would be frustrating at times to think, well we can do more, and more, and more, but without a site, we were inhibited," said the museum's director, Gary Luther.

After a decades-long search for a perfect spot, the Museum of Beer & Brewing will soon move into Milwaukee's Lincoln Warehouse, at 2018 S. 1st St.

"It's ADA accessible, it's got a nice ambiance to it, there are plenty of other new businesses in here," Luther said.

Lincoln Warehouse is home to three breweries, Component Brewing, Torzala Brewing, and New Barons Brewing Cooperative, which has more than 500 co-op member owners.

"We feel that we've got a good symbiotic effect coming between us and Lincoln Warehouse," Luther said.

The museum will showcase the history, science, and impact of brewing.

"Beer, cheese, and heavy industry were what made Milwaukee and Wisconsin famous, and we have to keep promoting that," Volke said. "It's just not the people in the industry that are making the beer, it's the people that supported those industries by consuming it."

Collections include historic paintings, signs, and glassware.

"We'll bring items out and rotate what we're displaying there in the museum through the years to keep it fresh," Luther said.

They expect to open in January 2024, and hope to provide a unique learning experience.

"We want to let the public come in and look at everything that's there, and see them, and try to entice them to come back more and more," Luther said.
