National Weather Service confirms 3 deaths, 2 injuries in wake of damaging Walworth County storms

CBS 58

WALWORTH COUNTY, Wis. -- The National Weather Service has completed it's Storm Survey for Walworth County after 3 people drowned and the storms left injuries and damage in its wake on Friday, July 3.

NWS says damage from south of Darien through Lake Delavan to Como occurred due to downburst winds and not a tornado.

There was estimated peak winds of 90-100mph from about 5-10 barns that were destroyed or heavily damaged from the storms. And hundreds of trees were snapped at the trunk or uprooted.

NWS confirms that the 3 people who drowned in a capsized boat on Geneva Lake was from the winds associated with the storm.

Two other injuries were reported southwest of Delavan Lake when 3 20-foot by 90-foot empty silos collapsed and fell on motorcyclists that were seeking shelter from a storm.

The NWS says witnesses in the area described the storms as a three-round burst of high winds.
