MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Leaders from local public high schools and colleges pushed for a new admission program Friday, Oct. 16.
The Racine and Milwaukee school districts joined Universities of Wisconsin promoting Direct Admit Wisconsin.
Students entering their senior year who meet GPA requirements would be automatically admitted to UW schools without having to apply.
"Receiving an early admission offer builds confidence and celebrates the academic accomplishments of students," said Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Brenda Cassellius. "The offer sends a powerful message -- you belong in college and the future is full of possibilities."
Around 40,000 students have received letters in the past week directly admitting them to Universities of Wisconsin starting in 2027.
Of those students, approximately 15,800 are in Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin.
