New 353 area code coming to Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Public Service Commission (PSC) announced a new "353" area code is coming to Wisconsin.

According to a news release, beginning Sept. 15, customers in the 608 area code overlay region may be assigned a number in the 353 area code when requesting new service or an additional line. 

This area includes communities such as Madison, Beloit, Janesville, La Crosse, Middleton, Monroe, Platteville, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, and Wisconsin Dells.

PSC says the 608 area code is expected to run out of assignable prefixes by the first quarter of 2024, or sooner.
