MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- New body camera footage released shows the dramatic rescue of a woman trapped in her car inside a retention pond.
On a bone chilling night just before Christmas, a pond near American Family Field was the scene of a dramatic rescue. A woman's car veered off the road and into the icy water.
New video from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office shows the intense moments from the rescue on that cold December day.
"She's still in there? Yeah, water's up to her chest," said one of the dive team members in the video from the scene.
On Dec. 22, a woman's car veered off Highway 175.
As the rescue team worked to get the woman out, they gave her instructions to keep her safe and calm.
"Close your eyes mam, and look away from the glass," she was told.
After several attempts, first responders are finally able to break the rear driver's side window.
Next, they break the driver's side window. That's when panic set in for the woman as she waited to be pulled out.
After prying the driver's side door open, a member of the dive team was able to pull the woman to safety.
A challenging rescue on any day, but the sub-zero weather was an obstacle to overcome on its own.
Following the rescue, the woman was taken to the hospital and is OK.
