New development to break ground in Milwaukee, offering affordable housing and short-term crisis units

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new development in affordable housing is set to break ground on N. 50th St.
The Phoenix Residential Apartments will deliver over 20 affordable units as well as 10 short-term, crisis units.
On Wednesday, County Executive David Crowley, along with other partners, took a tour of the innovative construction site.
With the vision of making Milwaukee County the healthiest in the state, Crowley shared how this project is a step toward progress.
"This is a meaningful development because it is also bringing together critical services that will help us bridge the gap - not only with housing security, but as well as behavior health services - and when folks are experiencing emergency housing situations and dealing with their own trauma, this place will be a safe, accessible place for them," Crowley said.
The $1.3 million investment is the first of its kind for Milwaukee County, supporting a mix of both affordable housing and short-term crisis units.
