New Milwaukee Public Library branch officially opens in Harambee neighborhood

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There's a new place to learn and study in Milwaukee's Harambee neighborhood.

The newly updated Martin Luther King Library branch had its grand opening today, Sept. 6. 

The library first opened in 1971 as the Locust Library. 

It now features green infrastructure, ultra-modern touches including the technology to create a pop-up recording studio, private study areas and a large community room. 

Mayor Cavalier Johnson says this building is more than just a library. 

"It's a symbol of innovation," he said. "A symbol of sustainability and really it's a symbol of possibility in Harambee and neighborhoods all across the city." 

The library is located at 2901 N. MLK Jr. Dr and is now open to the public.
