OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An Oak Creek man who killed his own mother learns his sentence.
Stephen Cole was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision at his sentencing hearing on Tuesday.
On December 26 of last year, Cole stabbed his mother Regina Rosebrock 13 times, killing her. He also stabbed his stepfather Edwin Rosebrock who survived.
A fight started after Cole's mother poured out his bottles of alcohol.
Cole, who says he has struggled with an addiction to alcohol, claims he was blacked out when the killing happened.
Rosebrock's son-in-law read letters written by family members with a strong message to Cole.
"Imagine what she was going through when she knew her own son was killing her. Imagine how terrifying it was for her and you just get to block this from your mind because you don't remember? I wish you remembered. I wish you could hear her screams, but you can't. Even if you could I'm sure your mind would have a way of keeping it from you," said Joseph Snowden, son-in-law.
Cole was also ordered to pay $6,600 in restitution to the family for the cost of the funeral.
