MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Some hometown heroes are getting recognition for their actions on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Milwaukee police officers and detectives were given Merit Awards for their efforts in several cases, including the murder of Prince McCree.
McCree was a 5-year-old Milwaukee boy who went missing last year and was later found dead in a dumpster on the city's near northwest side.
Thanks to the work to dedicated detectives like Daniel O'Connell, McCree's body was found and the two people responsible for his death were charged.
"To get an award for this, it means a lot. A lot of times detectives, our work is behind the scenes, a lot of our frontline officers do great work, lot of dangerous work but it feels great to be recognized for stuff that people don't see a lot of the times in the news," said O'Connell.
Other officers were honored with awards, including two officers who saved the life of a victim of gun violence, rendering medical aid before they could be taken to a hospital.
