Father taken to hospital after being shot by son at Town of Delafield home

TOWN OF DELAFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man was seriously wounded in a shooting at a Town of Delafield home Sunday, June 21.

Just before 3 p.m., the Waukesha County Sherif's Department said a 52-year-old was shot at a home along McDowell Road. Deputies arrested a 25-year-old man in connection to the shooting. 

CBS 58 was able to confirm with officials Sunday evening the suspect and the victim are father and son. 

Neighbors say they heard three shots and yelling coming from the home. Sandra Martens told a CBS 58 reporter her husband and son were working outside when they heard the gunfire, followed by yelling.

"I was in the house. I did not actually hear it. My husband called me and was up on the roof with my son and they heard some kind of yelling and heard gunshots," Martens told CBS 58. 

Waukesha County dispatch audio recorded a call for service at the home on McDowell Road, near Hickory Hill Drive.

"For a caller who was sitting with his gun trying to relax, and the dad started fighting," the dispatcher told responding deputies. "He shot his father three times in the abdomen with his gun. The gun is currently next to him on the ground by the front door."

Late in the afternoon, several yellow evidence markers were visible on the front steps of the house. Deputies carried away brown evidence bags.

Dispatch audio later included a message saying the shooter "was doing bleeding control on his father" and had set down the handgun used in the shooting.

Martens said she knew the victim fairly well because he had gone to school with her own children.

She and her husband added the victim lived in the house with his two adult children; one of whom had recently moved back into the home within the past few months.

"I pray Jason's OK," Martens said. "I want him to be OK."
