1 arrested after deadly hit-and-run near 22nd and National, police seek additional suspect

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say a 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the deadly hit-and-run. Officials continue to seek an additional suspect.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - New surveillance video appears to show the moments before and after a 47-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run on Milwaukee's south side Tuesday night.

Milwaukee police say Troy Lewek was killed around 10:30 p.m. near 22nd Street and National Avenue.
Video from a business across the street appears to show Lewek crossing the road when a vehicle hits him. Police say the driver did not stop or return to the scene.
Seconds later, the video appears to show Lewek lying in the street as a second red vehicle drives over him before also leaving the area.
“The second car coming and running over the poor guy, they could have also prevented it if they were just watching the road and not speeding,” said Elizabeth Cruz, who works across the street from where the incident happened. “The way they were speeding, it looked like they went over a speed bump.”
Cruz said speeding is a common problem along that stretch of National Avenue.
“It’s a bit reckless. Considering how bad the conditions are on the road here, people still speed like it’s a freeway,” she said.
Police say neither driver stopped or returned to the scene. Cruz said she hopes whoever is responsible comes forward.
“Seeing how they just took off, who knows how many more times this is going to happen or how many times they’re going to keep doing it before they’re caught,” Cruz said. “Hopefully they have a conscience and do the right thing and come forward.”
Milwaukee police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
