‘1 game away’: Brewers fans dream of World Series as Milwaukee rallies behind team
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from the World Series, and fans are already imagining what could come next.
At Thursday’s Brewers giveaway inside Third Street Market Hall, fans picked up rally towels, stickers, pinwheels and other items as excitement continued to build ahead of the game.
“Go Brewers!” fan Dani Gagliano said.
“Go Brewers all the way!” fan Richard Knisbeck said.
For Gagliano, watching the game is a family affair.
“I’m going to be watching the game with my mom tonight, making sure we’re together so we can scream and yell it out. We got some rally towels, and I got a sticker,” Gagliano said.
For longtime fans, the playoff run represents years of dedication to the team and memories of past postseason appearances.
“I’m old, it goes back a long time, certainly to the 1982 World Series we were in as an American League team,” Knisbeck said.
The Brewers have not reached the World Series since 1982, and fans are hoping this year's team can bring Milwaukee back to the sport's biggest stage.
Gagliano remembers the excitement surrounding the team's 2008 postseason run and said she is thrilled to see the Brewers this close to another opportunity.
“I remember last time they were in the wild card in 2008, I was there and was so excited. I'm happy we’re finally showing up and showing out, and we’re one game away,” Gagliano said.
Knisbeck said he is grateful to be part of the moment and hopes the team can secure one more victory.
“I’m just happy to be around for this event, and hopefully one more win and they’ll have another chance,” Knisbeck said.
If the Brewers advance, fans are already imagining a celebration throughout the city.
“I think we’ll go crazy. I hope we have another parade that we get to be a part of on Wisconsin Avenue,” fan Megan Manian said.
Knisbeck said the excitement could spill into Milwaukee's streets, regardless of the weather.
“Even with the weather, I’m sure the roads will be full of cars and beeping and usually the rally towels too,” Knisbeck said.
For now, fans are preparing to watch the game with rally towels in hand, hoping for one more win and a chance to see the Brewers return to the World Series for the first time since 1982.
