MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Chances are, that was the first time you heard Tyler Smith's name. The Bucks second round pick never played in college, so he didn't have some marquee March Madness moment. He was a diamond in the rough, first recruited by Damien Wilkins with Overtime Elite.

Wilkins tells me that when he was recruiting Tyler his size and versatility stood out. "A guy that can stretch the floor, handle the ball, shoot the ball. He's long enough to be a good defender. I was really impressed by those things."

Tyler turned pro at just 16 years old joining Overtime Elite before spending this past season with G-League Ignite. At 6'11" he has the height to guard anyone, but at just over 220 pounds he'll need some time in the weight room and more experience against elite forwards. That's why Wilkins thinks the Bucks are the perfect landing spot.

"You talk about a guy that's going to have to guard a MVP candidate, a champion. Every day he's going to have to go against that monster, number 34," Wikins says, "That's certainly going to help him improve as well."

While he works on his strength and defense, Tyler's offensive game is already fairly developed. He shot 37 percent from three last year and has all the tools.

"His shooting, his ball handling, his passing, his overall basketball IQ. Those are the things that make him who he is."

The Bucks will formally introduce Tyler and first round pick AJ Johnson tomorrow morning. Scott Grodsky CBS 58 Sports.
