Packers complete first day of mandatory minicamp

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers held their first day of mandatory minicamp.

All offseason, Matt LaFleur has praised the attendance of his team with near 100% participation for each day. On Tuesday, defensive backs Xavier McKinney, Jaire Alexander, Keisean Nixon were all excused after exceeding their required incentives for participation per LaFleur.

LaFleur also revealed he has not been calling plays in the offseason. He said with a smile, giving up the play calling duties is "not an option" at this time, but he has been having offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich calling plays during two-minute periods. But so has quarterback Jordan Love.

"I do like it. Calling two-minute plays. If anything, it just helps understand the play calls. Always thinking about that next play," said Love. "Understanding the two-minute situations. What we need. What plays work. What plays don't work."

"I just want him to experience it a little bit more. So, we put him in some of those two-minute situations. I just want to see what he was thinking," said LaFleur.

On a day that was dominated by second year safety Zayne Anderson with three interceptions, the Packers defense continues to provide intrigue. This is the first year of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. The early impressions have been positive for the simplicity, especially for the defensive lineman.

"We just going. I love it. Just being able to get off the ball. We got a lot of athletic guys up front this system, definitely tailors to the D-line, so I love it," said Kenny Clark, Packers defensive lineman.

"I love Jeff. He pushes us. He tells us. He tells us the ins and outs. We not just going out there lining up," said Carrington Valentine, Packers cornerback.

The Packers will have three total days of mandatory minicamp before breaking for training camp towards the end of July.
