Packers Hall Of Famer Antonio Freeman watches son Alex play for USA at Soldier Field
CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS 58) -- "Let's go!" Antonio Freeman yells.
Looks like any other soccer fan.
"C'mon! C'mon!" he says.
But looks can be deceiving.
"It's nerve-wracking," Freeman admits.
But you may know him memorable plays on the big stage like this.
"He did what?!?!"
Packers Hall of Famer Antonio Freeman is the dad of U.S. Men's National Soccer team defender Alex Freeman.
"Pretty good kid as long as he's not kicking balls around in my house," Freeman says.
CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asks, "You know sports. You're learning soccer. And you can just be a fan because you don't know everything about this?"
"That's the exciting part, because I can be a fan. And I can still have a relationship with my son because I don't have the qualifications to be a critic," Freeman says.
Although sometimes the fan in Free just can't help himself.
"I think all of them went to acting school at one point. You know, they roll around and do all kinds of stuff. And then they get up and run full speed," Freeman says.
"You never did that when the corner kind of grabbed your jersey just a little bit and you didn't like do one of those?" Allan asks.
"Absolutely. I didn't think of it that way," Freeman says with a chuckle.
And watching at Soldier Field in Chicago brought back a flood of memories.
"All these years I played sports, I've never been in these actual concession stands at these stadiums, so it definitely is surreal by all means," Freeman says.
"I think you and Brett and some of the guys had some good memories in this place," Allan says.
"Yeah, yeah, we had our moments here. It was always fun to come play in Soldier Field and pretty much come home with a win. But man -- hey!" Freeman says, as the U.S. team scores a goal.
"And I seem to remember in '96, 30 years ago, right where that goal was scored, you had a diving catch right in that same spot! You remember that?"
"I didn't know it was the same spot, but I remember all my games against Chicago," Freeman says.
"You came right into my lens. I was shooting that game".
"He just hurled it up," Freeman says.
Now, Antonio hopes Alex gets his splash play on the big stage.
"Play on!" Freeman yells.
