Packers prepare for possibilities at quarterback
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three words next to Jordan Love's name on the Packers injury report -"did not participate"- have opened the door for the possibility that Malik Willis will be under center in Green Bay this Sunday, Sept. 15.
Love has not been ruled out for this week's game, but coach Matt LaFleur says Love will need to be cleared to play and be able to protect himself on the field before he would be considered as an option to play.
Willis says Love was "taking mental reps" during Wednesday's practice and preparing to play, but Willis is ready to step in if Love can't go.
It's a whirlwind ride for Willis, who was acquired in a trade with the Tennessee Titans a little more than two weeks ago. Willis is in his third season and was slated to be the backup quarterback in Tennessee before the trade. Now he could be stepping in as the starter for Green Bay's home opener.
LaFleur said practice squad player Sean Clifford also got some first team reps in Wednesday's practice.
The Packers host the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at noon.
