Packers sign Brandon McManus; he says civil case resolved
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) - The Green Bay Packers made the signing of kicker Brandon McManus official on Wednesday morning.
The 33-year-old has been a free agent this season because of two sexual assault allegations originally filed against him in May of this year, while he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023.
After 10 years with the Denver Broncos and Jaguars, McManus signed with the Washington Commanders but was released following the accusations being filed.
The NFL announced it closed its own investigation in September due to "insufficient evidence." Speaking with reporters, McManus said the matter has been "resolved."
"It's been a difficult time these past couple months, happy it's in the past now," said McManus. "The NFL resolved it and so did the courts. The matter's been resolved. I've always been upfront and honest about it, that's how I was able to get through this all."
"We feel very, very comfortable with the acquisition," said Brian Gutekunst, Packers general manager. "Really good conversation with Brandon last night and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Last week, when these things got cleared up within the league. He got past some other things those conversations picked up. We wanted to do our due diligence. Again, we feel really good about that, where we sit right now, and we're excited to get him out there," said Gutekunst.
McManus would not elaborate on the matter being "resolved" but his attorney, Brett Gallaway, sent this statement to CBS 58:
"The case has been resolved. I look forward to seeing Brandon play for the Packers on Sunday."
The Packers released rookie Brayden Narveson to bring in McManus. Narveson is 12-17 on field goals this season. His five missed kicks lead the NFL through six weeks. McManus has a career 81.4% on field goals and 97.2% on extra points.
He won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2015, going 10-10 on field goals and 3-3 on extra points. He's known for a big leg including making a 61-yard field goal with the Broncos. He's made 54.2 % of his kicks from 50 yards in his career.
"I was hoping and working hard for another opportunity. I'm extremely grateful for the Green Bay Packers for giving me that next chance to come back out here and play the game I love," said McManus.
