Panel of judges dismisses lawsuit challenging Wisconsin's congressional maps

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A three-judge panel appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit Tuesday, April 28 that sought to overturn the state's congressional district maps.

The lawsuit was brought by liberal groups who argue the maps are drawn to favor Republicans. The panel ruled that under the state constitution, courts do not have authority to determine whether a congressional map gives an unfair advantage to one political party.

An earlier panel of judges dismissed a similar lawsuit challenging the maps earlier this year.
