Passing Drivers Pulled Man Out of Crashed Car and Tried to Save Him

Passing drivers attempted to perform CPR on the man that eventually died after crashing on I-41 / US 45 at Watertown Plank Road on Sunday.

According Milwaukee County Sherriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Sunday at 3:45 PM.  

The first deputy to arrive found two citizens performing CPR on an unconscious man.  The deputy took over CPR until the Wauwatosa Fire Department med unit arrived.

Witnesses said the vehicle slowly drifted toward the distress lane and struck the wall on the passenger side, causing minimal damage.

Witnesses stopped to check on the driver, who they found unresponsive and without a pulse. 

They lifted him out of the vehicle and placed him on the ground to begin chest compressions.  He did not sustain any obvious injuries as a result of the crash.

William A. Carson III, age 66, of Menomonee Falls, was pronounced dead at 4:52 p.m.
