MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A petition to legalize recreational and medicinal marijuana in Wisconsin now has over 2,000 signatures.
Democratic Senator Melissa Agard presented the petition to the Joint Finance Committee Monday, March 29.
People who signed the petition also support taxing recreational marijuana like alcohol.
Back in February, in an interview you saw first on CBS 58, Republican Senate Majority Leader Devin Lemahieu said he's not open to legalizing marijuana in any form.
"If the FDA approves it, I would be open to it, but at this point the federal government hasn't done that," Lemahieu said.
A 2019 Marquette Law School poll shows 59% of people in Wisconsin are in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.
