WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- If you're home with the whole family this week and looking for something to do, the Pettit National Ice Center is offering more time for families on the ice.
They've extended public skate hours. They're open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. now through Jan. 2, 2023.
"People are home right now. They're looking for things to do," said Mackenzie Neuendorf the Pettit's skating school director.
The 400-meter oval at the Pettit goes around two other rinks, and that's just part of what makes it a unique place to skate.
"Public skate takes place on the oval. You get to skate right where a lot of Olympians have skated," said Neuendorf.
Public skate starts at $6.50, and they offer skate rental for everyone from toddlers to adult men for $4.50.
And now is a popular time for many people to take up winter sports as a hobby.
"Our skating school is for all levels, all abilities, whether you're a figure skater, hockey player or speed skating, or whether you're just starting out and wanting to get into one of those," said Neuendorf.
The extended hours end next week as the Pettit hosts the US National Speed Skating team for practices.
