Pixies cancel tour, Summerfest show due to COVID-19 surge
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Summerfest lost one of its headliners on Monday, Aug. 23.
Pixies was set to play in Milwaukee on Saturday, Sept. 18. However, on Monday the rock band announced it is canceling its 11-date U.S. September run of their tour.
"We have determined that with the current surge in COVID cases - made worse by the Delta variant - that this is the right decision for our fans and crew members' safety, as well as our own," the band said in a statement.
The band was set to play at Summerfest's Generac Power Stage.
"We ask that our fans stay safe and healthy and we hope to see you all soon," the statement continued.
Ticket holders can obtain refunds from point of purchase.
Summerfest is yet to comment on the cancelation, including naming a replacement act. Summerfest begins Sept. 1 and is requiring attendees to show proof of vaccination for entry.
