4-year-old killed in shooting in Milwaukee, 2 arrested
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 4-year-old is dead following a shooting on Milwaukee's northwest side Thursday night, July 10.
Police say it happened at 75th and Northridge Lakes Boulevard, near the Glenbrook Apartment Homes.
Milwaukee police say two people have been arrested, a 34-year-old man and 33-year-old woman.
Friday, July 11th people gathered at the Crossover Center in Milwaukee for an emergency community prayer.
Frustrated over the violence they say is plaguing Milwaukee, people gathered praying for peace and protection over the city and its children.
The service started off taking a moment for the family and all who were impacted by the death of the 4-year-old, whose lives will never be the same.
District nine Alderwoman Larresa Taylor was among those attending the service, saying gun safety needs to be taken more seriously because incidents like these are preventable.
"Be smart and be safe," said Taylor in a statement about the shooting. "Gun safety is a must. Use a gun lock. Properly store your guns, especially when children are present. And perhaps most importantly, seek alternative options before you reach for a gun to resolve a conflict."
Pastor Parris Hibbler, who led the service says one child taken is too many and now is the time to come together and make a change.
“One of the main things we’re praying for is over our youth," said Hibbler. "This is the 10th, I believe the 10th passing of a child passing here in our city and this is the second child within the last couple of months here in the Northridge Lakes area.”
Taylor says there are resources available for those in need.
"There are countless resources available –including local organizations like the city’s Office of Community Wellness and Safety, Safe and Sound, representatives from 414Life and Promise Keepers, in addition to the Milwaukee Police Department," said Taylor.
