Suspect flees Wauwatosa traffic stop, arrested in downtown Milwaukee after 'lengthy negotiations'
CBS 58 WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wauwatosa police say criminal charges will be filed against a man who led officers on a pursuit that ended in downtown Milwaukee early Wednesday morning, Jan. 14.
An officer attempted to stop the driver just after 2:30 a.m. near Church Street and Milwaukee Avenue, according to the Wauwatosa Police Department. They say the suspect vehicle did not have license plates and was suspected to be involved in illegal drug activity.
Police say the driver refused to stop, and a pursuit began. Stop sticks were used to eventually block the suspect near Edison and State Street in downtown Milwaukee. Once stopped, officials say the driver still refused to surrender, and lengthy negotiations and "less lethal tactics" were used to force the driver out of the vehicle.
The suspect was arrested, and charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County DA's office in the coming days.
