WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wauwatosa police say a 26-year-old man is in custody after he ran from a car accident and entered a family's home Tuesday afternoon.
According to Captain Brian Zalewski, a three-car crash with minor injuries occurred at Harwood and Glenview around 2:30 p.m. One driver ran from the scene on foot.
Police say the driver stole a bike outside of Wilson Elementary School and took off. Officers chased the suspect, and he dropped the bike and ran eastbound, across Honey Creek Parkway and into the neighborhood towards Geralyne Drive.
The suspect then ran into an open garage and hid inside a home near 79th and Glenview, where a mother and her 8-year-old daughter locked themselves in an upstairs bathroom and called 911.
Police surrounded the home and took the suspect into custody around 2:50 p.m.
Neighbors say it was scary to see in the quiet neighborhood.
"Right away I could tell they were zeroing in on this house, there were three cops in my backyard, and the backyard behind us, all with their weapons drawn," said neighbor Deanna Amenent. "So clearly there was something going on that they were concerned about."
St. Jude the Apostle School was put on lockdown for the afternoon.
The mom and her daughter were not hurt.
