MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A woman is fighting for her life in the hospital after she was hit by a racing car in Bay View early Saturday morning.

"Pretty shocking that this would happen to her," said Mike Busateri, a Bay View resident. "She's a very good person, very intelligent, very loving, lots of friends and very active in the neighborhood."

Surveillance video shows two cars racing near Ellen and Kinnickinnic Ave. Police say one of the cars crossed the street, hitting a 33-year-old woman and driving off.

Vanguard, a bar not far from the site, posted on Instagram saying their beloved employee Cara Corder was the woman hit, leaving the community heartbroken.

"I think everyone that knows her, even people that don’t know her are praying for her and pulling for her to get a full recovery here," said Busateri."

Vangaurd demanding justice, saying they just want their sweet Cara to be okay and residents agree.

"I hope the victim gets justice," said Bay View resident, Stacy Osten. "I hope she recovers and you know obviously that's not what we want to hear in the neighborhood. I feel really bad for her."

Neighbors saying reckless driving isn't new to the area.

"There's a lot of issues here I'd say in terms of traffic that have been ongoing for a long time," said Osten.

Worried not only for their safety, but the community's.

"It's very concerning that this can happen to anybody at anytime," said Busateri. "These cars are recklessly driving up and down our streets where there are kids walking and elderly people trying to get across the streets."

There is a GoFundMe for Cara Corder here.
