PrideFest in Milwaukee kicks off, expecting a record-breaking year
MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- PrideFest in Milwaukee is officially underway at Henry Maier Festival Park.
The fan favorite festival has been around for decades celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in Milwaukee and beyond.
Organizers say this year is bigger and better than ever. They say it’s expected to be a record-breaking year and are anticipating around 50,000 people to attend throughout the three-day festival.
“It’s bringing a family together again,” said Denise Haussy who is on the Board of Directors for Milwaukee Pride. “It’s like a reunion. It’s a party with a purpose if you will. It kicks off the summer festival season and we always love the opportunity to be here.”
The main stage will have comedy performances, dancers and live music. There’s also fun for kids with rides, games, food and more.
Those attending say it’s so special to be able to come together as one and celebrate pride.
One couple has shared many milestones here at the festival, from performing, to getting engaged and now are sharing their favorite moment of all, bringing their new baby to his first PrideFest.
“We have been in the adoption process for two years and yesterday was the day the baby came and it’s his first Pride,” said Jinx Oge, a PrideFest attendee. “Coming as a parent to pride, that’s so surreal and different.”
PrideFest runs Thursday through Saturday.
