Proposal to end Christmas Day bus service in Milwaukee being dropped

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Supervisor Sheldon Wasserman announced on Friday, Sept. 12 that he is withdrawing a proposal to eliminate Milwaukee County Transit System service on Christmas Day.
Wasserman said in a Friday media release that he decided to pull the resolution after hearing from riders who depend on buses during the holiday to reach jobs, church services and family gatherings.
"These stories made it clear that this service is not a luxury, but a necessity for thousands of Milwaukee County residents," he said.
MCTS reported providing nearly 14,000 rides on Christmas Day in 2024.
Wasserman said the issue reflects broader financial struggles for Milwaukee County transit, saying the county continues to face challenges providing state-mandated services without adequate state funding.
