Proposal to pause new data centers in Milwaukee passed by zoning committee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At a Milwaukee Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development Committee meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 6, alders discussed data center developments in Milwaukee.

A proposed substitute ordinance would pause building new centers or the enlargement of existing ones for one year, or until a zoning code is amended to regulate data centers.

Alders say this pause would put the public first and allow leaders to find a plan that fits the community.

The plan passed in the zoning committee Tuesday and will be voted on at the full common council meeting on Oct. 13.
