GREENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) — Tom Allen, Steve LaRocco, Bill Burch and Mike Treske grew up in Greendale.

The four guys met in high school in the 1970s and formed the “Four of a Kind Barbershop Quartet.”

“We got a big break at the State Fair our senior year in high school, singing at the Pabst Beer Pavilion,” Allen said.

In 1976, the quartet performed the national anthem at County Stadium before a Brewers game.

“Billy Martin, the infamous manager, he came up to us after we sang and he said something along the lines of, guys, I’ve heard a lot of renditions of this. That’s one of the best we’ve ever heard,” Treske said.

Fifty years later, the group is back in Greendale, warming up their vocal cords for a very special performance.

“I would be lying if I said every once in a while I didn’t get a little pang in the stomach, but honestly, when you’re my age, having a pang in the stomach and being nervous is kind of cool,” LaRocco said.

The group will be performing the national anthem at American Family Field ahead of the Brewers game on Friday night, which kicks off the final homestand of the season before the playoffs.

“To be able to sing the national anthem when we know they’re champs of the division already is really cool,” Allen said.

The group got together earlier this year for the Six Flags Great America 50th Anniversary Celebration, and they say they are sounding just as good as they did back in the day.

“The fact that it’s so meaningful, what an opportunity,” Treske said.
